Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although this isn't the truth. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher who encouraged her to go in that direction. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, big and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 and was only seen on occasion.

Aisha Jamila Hinds, an American actor who is most well recognized for her appearances on the TV shows The Shield and True Blood.
